The friction created by the multiple plates contained in the clutch on a Honda Shadow 750 motorcycle transfers power from the motor to the transmission. If your motorcycle has been slipping in and out of gear or you have heard or felt grinding coming from the clutch plates, remove the clutch to inspect the plates and springs for damage or wear. Damaged clutch plates may appear cracked, burned, or stuck together. Springs can become stretched out, broken, or corroded.
Step 1
Position the drain pan directly underneath the crank case cover on the right side of your motorcycle. Remove the crank case cover to reveal the clutch.
Step 2
Locate the four retainer bolts at the corners of the clutch plate. Remove the bolts with a socket wrench.
Step 3
Remove the four retainer springs from underneath the bolts by pulling them straight out manually.
Step 4
Unbolt the pressure plate from underneath the springs.
Remove the fiber and metal discs that are underneath the pressure plate.
