Whether you have a telescopic or fixed antenna on your car, over time it can wear out or become bent. A damaged or malfunctioning antenna can prevent you from listening to the radio in your car, and takes away from your cars overall appearance. Removing your cars antenna is a simple process.
How to Remove a Car Antenna
Step 1
Locate the coaxial cable that runs from the antenna to the back of the radio behind the dashboard and check to see if there is an extension cable or if it is one cable running the entire length. If it is an extension, unplug the cable at the extension coupling. If it is one cable, unplug the coaxial cable from the back of the radio.
Step 2
Place a clean cloth around the antenna to protect the surface of the car and use a screwdriver to gently lift the rubber grommet from around the lip of the antenna. Pry the rubber piece loose and take it off of the antenna.
Step 3
Undo the screws on the antenna mount with a screwdriver and lift the mount off of the vehicle surface. Look under the dashboard on the inside under the front passenger side of the car to locate where the antenna is mounted to the car.
Step 4
Undo the socket that is holding the antenna to the vehicle frame with a crescent wrench. Have someone hold the antenna on the outside of the car as you loosen the socket to keep it from falling and damaging the paint on the car.
Slide the socket out of the coaxial cable and then remove the antenna from the car by pulling the coaxial cable through the hole in the vehicle frame.
