Some Cadillac models, including the SRX, the DTS and the CTS, come equipped with plastic engine covers. These covers help filter out engine noise coming into the vehicles cabin. They also have an aesthetic purpose, as they aim to enhance the engine compartment by covering up the valve cover and some wiring. On the Cadillac CTS-V model, the engine oil cap does not have to come off for the engine cover to be removed.
Step 1
Turn the Cadillacs engine off. Pull the hood-release switch to unlock the cars hood.
Step 2
Step to the front of the vehicle. Push the visible lever beneath the partially open hood to the side to unhook the hood latch. Lift the hood. The support struts will automatically support it.
Step 3
Locate the engine oil cap in the center of the engine cover. It is a black cap with an icon of an oil can. Turn the cap counterclockwise to unscrew it.
Step 4
Grasp the bottom-right edge of the engine cover. Lift it upward to unhook the the clips. Move to the other side and do the same.
Lift the engine cover up to remove it. On some Cadillac models, a brace runs horizontally across the engine compartment. On these models, slide the engine cover toward you to remove it. Immediately replace the oil cap.
Tip
- To re-install the engine cover, simply place it back over the engine. Use the engine oil cap hole as a guide. Push it down firmly to re-attach it.
