Programming a car remote on your own is a task that should not take more than 10 minutes of your time to complete properly. Car remotes allow you to access different parts of your vehicle including the locks on the doors and the trunk. Remotes allow you to open these areas much easier than if you had to manually put the key in each area every time you wanted it open. While programming a car remote may sound like a difficult task, it is actually quite simple with the proper instructions.

Step 1

Sit in the car with all of the doors and the trunk completely closed. Turn the key in the ignition to the "On" position by turning it only until the dash light comes on. Within five seconds of the dash lighting up, press the "Lock" button on the remote for one second and then release it.

Step 2

Turn the key to the "Off" position until the lights on the dashboard go off. Repeat these steps three more times (so that you have done it a total of four times). Make sure that each step is done within five seconds of the last one. Once you turn the fourth key on, you will hear a clunking sound in the locks. This does NOT mean the locks have unlocked, it simply means the system is in programming mode. Leave the key on at this point.

Press the "Lock" button within five seconds of entering programming mode and hold the button for one second before releasing it. This process can be done on up to three different car remotes if you need to program more than one for your vehicle. Turn the ignition off completely and remove the key. Exit the car and close the door. The buttons on the car remote should work for all doors and the trunk.
