The Nissan Titan has never been the most capable truck on the road, but with Nissan reliability and a 5.6-liter, V-8 engine, it is a nice alternative to the "Big Three" truck manufacturers. In order to make the most out of the quality craftsmanship of your 2014 Titan, it is best to keep the fluids topped off with only the types the manufacturer recommends.

Engine Oil

The 2014 Nissan Titan requires 6 7/8 quarts of engine oil, and Nissan recommends using 5W-30 oil. After changing the oil and filter, always verify that the oil is at the "H" mark on the dipstick before starting the truck. With the oil level verified, start the engine, allow it to idle for two minutes, shut the engine off, allow the oil to settle for a minute, then recheck and add as needed to reach the "H" mark.

Coolant

In the cooling system, the Titan uses 3 1/4 gallons of Nissan Long Life Antifreeze/Coolant, which is blue in color, or an equivalent coolant. When checking the coolant level, always do so when the engine is cold. A correctly filled cooling systems level is between the "Min" and "Max" lines on the coolant reservoir.

Automatic Transmission Fluid, Transfer Case Fluid and Differential Oil

The Titans automatic transmission requires 11 1/5 quarts of Nissan Matic S ATF, but you can use Nissan Matic J ATF if the Matic S is not available. When checking the auto transmission fluid, always verify that the fluid is within the "Cold" range on the transmission dipstick, then start the truck, move the gear selector through each gear while holding the brake, then return it to park. Allow the truck to idle until it reaches operating temperature, then verify that the transmission fluid is within the "Hot" range on the dipstick. In the 2014 Titans transfer case, Nissan recommends using only Nissan Matic D ATF, and it needs 2 1/8 quarts to fill it up. The front differential requires 3 3/8 pints of Nissan Differential Oil Hypoid Super GL-5 80W-90 or GL-1 synthetic gear oil with a 80W-90 viscosity. The rear diff uses 4 1/4 pints of Nissan Differential Oil Synthetic in a 75W-140 or API GL-5 synthetic gear oil of the same viscosity. When checking or refilling the fluid in the transfer case and differentials, the fluid needs to be level with the filler hole.

Other Fluids

The Titans power steering system uses Nissan PSF or Dexron VI ATF, and you fill it until the fluid level reaches the "Hot Max" or "Cold Max" on the power steering reservoir, depending whether the engine is hot or cold. Nissan recommends Nissan Super Heavy Duty Brake Fluid or an equivalent DOT 3 fluid, filled to between master cylinder reservoirs "Min" "Max" lines.
