Contenu

The Tacoma is a compact pickup truck manufactured by Toyota. The 2.7-liter 3RZ engine was offered in first-generation Tacoma pickups built between 1995 and 2005. Along with the four-cylinder engine, the Tacoma came equipped with an optional four-speed automatic or five-speed manual transmission.

Location

The coolant temperature sensor on a Toyota Tacoma produced between 1995 and 2005 is located under the hood. To reach the sensor, simply open the hood and look in the rear engine area. The sensor is mounted to the engine block, just above the transmission bellhousing.

Function

The coolant temperature sensor monitors the temperature of the engine. This information is then sent to the engine control computer to help regulate how much fuel is needed in the engine.

Inspect

Inspect the coolant temperature sensor by visually checking the wires attached to the sensor. Ensure the wires are secured properly and free of corrosion. Problems with the coolant temperature sensor are commonly in the wiring and not the sensor itself.

Replace

If you find that the coolant temperature sensor is defective, replacing this part is easy. Simply disconnect your battery, remove the sensor wires and disengage the sensor from the engine block. Install the new sensor in place of the old one and connect the sensor wires.
