Kawasaki Motors has manufactured a number of ATVs over the years. One of its early utility quads was the Bayou 185, a small and efficient four-wheeler that the company manufactured for only four years.
Dates
Kawasaki began manufacturing the Bayou 185 in 1985, four years after its first ATV. This 185cc model lasted until 1988, though the Bayou make itself would continue for over 10 years.
Engineering
The Bayou 185 came with a single cylinder, four-stroke engine with a bore and stroke of 2.60 by 2.09 inches, and a compression ratio of 9.5 to 1. Other systems included an electric and recoil starter, a CDI ignition system, and a wet sump lubricator.
Dimensions
Weighing in at 357 pounds without fuel, the Bayou 185 measured 67.52 inches long, 39.37 wide, and 38.78 high. It had a wheelbase of 29.13 inches and a ground clearance of 5.71 inches.
Parts
For those looking to service or repair the Bayou 185, Kawasaki includes instructions and parts lists in the quads manual. It takes SAE 10W-30, 10W-40, 10W-50, 20W-40 or 20W-50 engine oil; an NGK D8EA spark plug, and a 12 volt, 11 ampere-hour battery.
