Contenu

Haul Master refers to a line of towing accessories sold by the Harbor Freight Company. Harbor Freight started business in 1968 selling tools at a reasonable price through mail order catalogs and retail store locations. The Haul Master tow bar is designed to tow a vehicle on all four of its wheels behind a tow vehicle. The tow bar mounting brackets attach to the front of the vehicle being towed. Once this is done, the tow bar can be quickly attached to the brackets and to your tow vehicles trailer hitch.

Step 1

Loosen the left and right bar holding bolts on the head of the tow bar assembly with an adjustable wrench in a counterclockwise direction. Swing the left and right bars away from each other.

Step 2

Remove the mounting brackets from the left and right bars on the tow bar assembly by turning out the holding bolts with an adjustable wrench turned in a counterclockwise direction. Set the bolts aside.

Step 3

Select a location on the front of the vehicle to be towed to mount the tow bar mounting brackets. Hold the bracket in place and make marks through the mounting holes and onto the tow vehicles mounting surface with a felt-tipped pen. Set the mounting brackets aside.

Step 4

Drill through the marks on the tow vehicle with a 1/2-inch drill bit installed into an electric drill. Attach the mounting brackets to the tow vehicle with the bolts supplied with the tow bar. Line up the holes in each mounting bracket with the holes you drilled. Run bolts through the holes and secure them with a lock nut tightened in a clockwise direction with an adjustable wrench.

Step 5

Attach the tow bar assembly to the mounting brackets on the front of your tow vehicle. Place the mounting hole in the end of the left and right bars into the holes in the mounting brackets. Re-install the original holding bolts through the holes and secure with lock nuts tightened with an adjustable wrench in a clockwise direction.

Step 6

Tighten the left and right bar holding bolts on the head of the tow bar with an adjustable wrench turned in a clockwise direction.

Back your tow vehicle up to the towed vehicle and lower the tow bar coupler to the trailer hitch ball on your tow vehicle. Slide the hitch ball coupler on the tow bar hitch head until it locks into place.

Tips

  • All mounting hardware, such as bolts and lock nuts, comes with your tow bar assembly.
  • When selecting a location to attach the tow bar mounting brackets to the front of your towed vehicle, select a solid surface, such as the vehicles frame or front bumper. Make sure the area selected can support the weight of the towed vehicle and has a thickness of not more than 5/8-inch. The brackets must be mounted on each side of the front of the towed vehicle no less than 24-inches apart but not more than 43-inches apart.
