Installing a starter motor on the Plymouth Breeze can be done from under the car in a few minutes time. The starter is responsible for turning the engine over during the engines startup. The starter motor, while durable, is an electric motor and contains brushes within the motor that can wear over time, causing the motor to fail or drag and not work effectively. You can purchase starter motors new or remanufactured through most auto parts stores or used through a salvage yard.

Step 1

Position a jack under the front of the car and raise it high enough to work under. Support the vehicle with a set of jack stands, placed securely under the car and on solid ground.

Step 2

Raise the starter up from under the car and position it into the opening in the bell housing. The starter for the Breeze is mounted on the front of the transversely mounted engine.

Step 3

Install the two mounting bolts that run through the two mounting ears on the starter and thread into the block. Tighten the bolts with a socket and ratchet, tightening them until they are secure.

Step 4

Install the wires from the cars wiring harness to the back of the starter. The solenoid wire has a plug on it that needs to be pushed onto the post on the back of the starter. The battery lead or wire uses a ring connector and it needs to be installed onto the larger post. Install the lock washer and nut on the post and tighten it with a wrench.

Raise the front of the car with the jack, remove the jack stands and lower the car to the ground.
