If you notice your Toyota Corolla making a clicking noise when you turn the key, it may be time to replace your car battery. Another sign that your Corolla battery has died is when the lights and radio in your vehicle will not work. Removing and installing a new battery only takes a few steps, but be sure you can lift 30 to 40 pounds--the weight of most car batteries.
Step 1
Allow your Toyota Corolla to cool for at least a half hour before beginning any work under the hood of the vehicle.
Step 2
Open the hood of your Corolla by pulling the hood release latch inside the vehicle. If you have a battery currently installed, you will need to remove that first.
Step 3
Remove the current battery with a combination wrench by loosening the nuts connecting the cable to the black (negative) cable first. Remove the cable from the battery. Repeat this step for the red (positive) cable. Gently pull the battery from your Corolla and dispose of it per local regulations.
Step 4
Clean the battery holder tray where the battery sits and the clamps that attach to the battery using a wire brush. This process removes any corrosion or debris that may affect the connection of the new battery.
Place the new battery into the battery-holder tray. Reattach the red cable to the battery, then the black cable. Tighten the nuts to secure the cables to the battery. Close the hood of your Corolla. Your car is now ready for use.

- Wear gloves when working with batteries. Batteries contain corrosive acid.
