Contenu

Bomar hatches are an all-in-one unit that seals and trims the access openings of your boat. Installing a Bomar hatch correctly requires using the proper gasket and installation hardware to connect the trim flange to the fiberglass area surrounding the opening. An improper installation will allow water to pass through the hatch and enter your boat. This can destroy the interior of your boat if the opening sits over a cabin or electrical panel.

Step 1

Remove adhesive and old gasket from the area around the hatch opening with a putty knife.

Step 2

Center a Bomar hatch over the cleaned opening. Open the hatch lid. Run the tip of a pencil around each mounting hole stamped in the trim flange of the hatch. Remove the hatch from the opening.

Step 3

Drill a 1/8-inch hole at each pencil mark with a 1/8-inch drill bit and a drill. Wipe the fiberglass shavings from the drilled holes with a rag.

Step 4

Set the Bomar hatch down on a firm surface with the bottom of the trim flange facing up. Pull the backing paper from the back of the closed-cell foam.

Step 5

Press the closed-cell foam gasket on the bottom of the trim flange. Run the gasket around the entire flange. Overlap the ends of the gasket 3/4-inch. Cut the gasket to length with a utility knife.

Step 6

Push the two stainless steel screws shipped with the Bomar hatch through the two holes on the trim flange. Align the screws with two of the 1/8-inch holes you drilled around the hatch opening. Tighten the screws with a Phillips screwdriver.

Install one stainless steel screw into each hole of the trim flange to complete the installation of the Bomar hatch.
