To find out which type of engine your Ford Taurus has, you can pop the hood and search for a label on the engine. You can also identify the engine type with the 17-digit vehicle identification number, or VIN. A unique VIN is assigned to each vehicle and provides information about the vehicle, including engine type.
Step 1
Look for the VIN on the drivers side where the windshield meets the dash. Write down the 17-digit number.
Step 2
Visit autocheck.com and enter the VIN number for the Ford Taurus into the designated search box.
Click "Enter." You will receive a vehicle summary that lists the type of engine the car possesses, such as 3.5L V6.
Tips
- If you complete a VIN search and dont get any results, check the number to make sure you entered it correctly. If you did, go back to the car and confirm that you wrote down the number correctly.
- You can locate the VIN on insurance documents or on the doorpost of the vehicle.
