E-Z-Go golf carts are available in a wide variety of styles and designed for a multitude of purposes. Every E-Z-Go golf cart has one thing in common; they are all battery powered. The 36-volt battery system of E-Z-Go golf carts are a two bank system, wired in series. To allow your E-Z-Go golf cart to operate correctly, you need to hook up the batteries correctly. This gives your golf cart full use of each battery and if the batteries are connecting incorrectly, the batteries could overheat and explode, spraying battery acid on you and the golf cart.

Step 1

Put on your safety glasses.

Step 2

Orient the first bank of three batteries with the positive terminal of each battery facing the front of the golf cart. The first bank is the area of the battery compartment closest to the front of the golf cart.

Step 3

Place the three batteries in the rear bank of the battery compartment with the positive terminal of each battery facing the rear of the golf cart.

Step 4

Stand on the drivers side of the golf cart, facing toward the passengers side.

Step 5

Slide one end of a battery wire over the positive terminal of the battery on your right-hand side to the negative terminal of the battery on your left-hand side.

Step 6

Connect a battery wire to the positive battery terminal of the first battery on your left-hand side to the negative terminal of the second battery of the bank on your left-hand side. Repeat the process to the second and third batteries in the same bank. This will leave the positive terminal of the third battery open.

Step 7

Connect a battery wire to the negative battery terminal of the first battery on your right-hand side to the positive terminal of the second battery in the right-hand side bank of batteries. Perform the same operation between the second and third batteries of the same bank. The negative terminal of the third battery will be left open.

Step 8

Slide the positive battery cable from the golf cart to the positive terminal of the third battery in the first bank of batteries and the negative battery cable from the golf cart to the negative terminal of the third battery in the second battery bank.

Step 9

Select a socket from the socket set that matches the terminal nut of the battery wires and attach it to the inch-pound torque wrench.

Step 10

Set the torque wrench to 100 inch-pounds and tighten each terminal wire nut to the specified torque.

Apply a battery protective coating to each battery terminal connection to complete the hook-up of the batteries in your E-Z-Go golf cart.

Items you will need

  • Safety glasses
  • 6 Battery wires
  • Socket set
  • Inch-pound torque wrench
  • Battery terminal protective coating
