The 1986 Honda Shadow VT500C came with a four-stroke, liquid cooled V-twin engine with 491 cc of displacement. The engine used overhead camshafts and three valves per cylinder, and had a bore and stroke of 2.79 by 2.44 inches and a 10.5-to-1 compression ratio. This resulted in 47.5 horsepower at 9,000 rpm and 31 foot-pounds of torque at 7,000 rpm.
