The Shadow VT500C is a cruiser motorcycle manufactured by Honda. Made between 1983 and 1986, this short lived model was a combination of beauty, comfort and reliability, says Total Motorcycle. There wasnt much variety between the Shadow VT500C models, with the 1986 model similar to the previously released Shadow VT500C cruisers. The average cost for a used VT500C, as of December 2010, is between $965 and $1,300, according to Total Motorcycle.
Engine Specifications
The 1986 Honda Shadow VT500C came with a four-stroke, liquid cooled V-twin engine with 491 cc of displacement. The engine used overhead camshafts and three valves per cylinder, and had a bore and stroke of 2.79 by 2.44 inches and a 10.5-to-1 compression ratio. This resulted in 47.5 horsepower at 9,000 rpm and 31 foot-pounds of torque at 7,000 rpm.
Transmission, Brakes and Wheels
The Honda Shadow VT500 featured a six-speed transmission and a shaft final drive. The bike had single-disc brakes with one-piston calipers front and rear. It used a 3.50-16 front tire and a 130/90-16 rear tire.

The 1986 Honda Shadow VT500C had a wet weight of 443.1 lbs. The wet weight is how much the bike weighs with all necessary fluids such as oil and gasoline. The bike had a 3-gallon fuel tank and had two color options, black and Candy Scorpio Red, a dark shade. The bike featured a double seat to comfortably ride two, each with a backrest. The 1986 Shadow VT500C shipped with a side cover decal reading "Shadow 500," colored black, red and gold. While the bikes side covers were red or black, depending on the color of the bike, the engine covers were polished and the bike featured polished, round headlights.
