Contenu

The roofs of many campers and recreational vehicles are made of a rubber-like substance for increased durability. According to the RVbasics.com, the rubber material is actually called ethylene propylene diene monomer (EPDM). Washing this type of roof with harsh cleaners will cause it to deteriorate. Instead, you can make a homemade solution that will thoroughly clean the top of the camper and remove dirt and tree sap.

Step 1

Fill a bucket with 1 gallon of water and 1 to 2 tbsp. of dish soap.

Step 2

Rinse the rubber roof off with a garden hose to remove any loose debris and to wet the surface.

Step 3

Dip the end of a long-handled scrub brush into the soapy bucket and scrub the top of the rubber roof gently to dislodge dirt and stains. Continue scrubbing until you have cleaned the entire roof and removed as much of the dirt as possible.

Step 4

Rinse the roof off again using the garden hose to remove the soap suds.

Apply 1 to 2 tbsp. of mineral spirits to a cloth rag and rub any areas of the roof that are still stained. These stains are usually caused by tree sap or infrequent cleaning schedules.
