Window vent visors, rain guards, automotive vent shades, whatever you prefer to call them, are the same thing no matter what brand you buy. These are the strips of acrylic plastic that are glued to your vehicle over the top of the windows for several different reasons. Possibly the most popular reason is to allow the windows down to vent the car so it is not as hot from sitting in the sun. They can allow the user to roll the window down a bit when its raining to circulate the air without getting wet. You can install them yourself in a few minutes.

Step 1

Clean a two- to three-inch area above each of the windows where you wish to apply the window vent visors. If your vehicle is metal, use steel wool or sandpaper. If your vehicle is made from a plastic material, wipe the dirt off with a wet cloth and then scratch up the paint a bit with a medium to fine grit sandpaper.

Step 2

Apply a line of metal epoxy or J-B weld along the edge of the window vent visor that you are going to apply first. Gently press the window vent visor on the top of the window and hold firmly in place for three to five minutes to allow the bonding to begin.

Step 3

Repeat on all the windows where you want to attach visors. Wipe off any seeping or excess glue with an old cloth.

Step 4

Use the masking tape if desired to hold the vent visors firmly in place. This is highly recommended if you have children playing around your vehicle while the glue is drying.

Allow 24 to 48 hours for the glue to fully cure before using the vehicle again.

Warning

  • Install vent visors only when it is not going to rain, unless you have a dry space like a carport or garage to work in. If you try to attach the visors while it is raining, you will compromise the bonding agent of the adhesive, and the glue will not work. Compromising the bonding agent means that you will have to sand off the glue after it is dry and repeat the process.
