The Ford Windstar is a minivan manufactured by the Ford Motor Company from 1995 through 2003. According to Edmunds, although the Windstar was a reliable vehicle with numerous safety features, it could never compete successfully with its Toyota and Honda counterparts.
A/C Pressure Switch
MSN Auto states that a common air-conditioning (AC) issue with 1995 through 1998 Windstar models lies in its pressure switches, which help protect the AC compressor. Symptoms of failing pressure switches include an improperly functioning compressor and AC freeze buildup.
A/C Blower Motor
According to Auto Recalls For Consumers, Windstar drivers reported experiencing rear AC blower motor noise and failure. Although noise may seem like an annoyance, it may indicate a more serious problem. Windstar owners reported noticing a burning smell accompanied, in some cases, by smoke or fire.
Recall
In 2001, Ford recalled more than 413,000 Windstar AC blower motor units manufactured between 1998 and 2000. If you have not received a recall notice, call your Ford dealer to find out whether your vehicle is on the recall list.
