The Ford Superduty truck is known for its ruggedness. This truck is equipped for climbing the highest terrains or hauling the heaviest loads. To ensure that the truck operates in peak condition, its important to maintain the brake system. The Ford Superduty is equipped with hydraulic brakes; there can be no air in the brake lines or the calipers. Air can enter the lines when you replace the master cylinder or perform brake maintenance.
Setting Up
Open the hood to access the engine compartment and the master cylinder. Open the master cylinder by pulling the top off the cylinder reservoir. The brake fluid level must be at the fill mark on the side of the reservoir container. Place the lid back on the cylinder reservoir. Start the truck up and have a partner sit on the drivers side of the truck.
Bleeding the Brakes
Locate the bleeder valve on the back of the rear passenger-side caliper. You always want to start at the furthest point from the engine and work your way to the closest brake caliper. This procedure will require a partners assistance. You will need a 7/16-inch wrench to unscrew the bleeder valve. Loosen the bleeder valve but do not remove it. Have your partner pump the brake pedal until fluid pours out of the bleeder valve. Immediately tighten the valve with a wrench. Repeat this step on all the brake calipers. Proceed to the driver-side rear and then bleed the passenger-side front. The last caliper to bleed is the driver-side. front. Check the brake fluid level as you go. When you are finished, check the fluid level and ensure that it is to the fill line on the reservoir.
