The Ford Escort was available with power or manual windows. Which style you have will determine how you go about removing the door panel to replace any interior components. The door contains the window regulator, lock linkages, latch and other parts used for door lock and window operation. Anyone with basic auto repair experience and a few specific tools can remove the door panel from an Escort in under a half-hour.

Step 1

Pry the window crank off the door with the window crank removal tool, if your Escort is equipped with manual windows. You can purchase the tool (and a trim tool) at most automotive parts retailers.

Step 2

Remove the screw from the interior door handle with the Phillips screwdriver. Remove the two screws below the armrest next. Set all three screws aside.

Step 3

Slide the head of the trim tool under the bottom, trailing edge of the door panel and carefully pry the trim pin loose form the door. Repeat this across the bottom of the door until you have unseated all the trim pins.


Lift the door panel up and off the door carefully. If you have power windows, you will need to reach behind the panel and disconnect the wiring harness from the switch before you can pull the panel completely off the door.

Tip

  • Always use care when removing interior trim as it breaks easily and is often very expensive to replace.
