The Ford 5.4-liter Triton V-8 engine is installed in many model years of the Ford F-150 pickup, including the 2005 F-150. The owners manual supplied by Ford with every F-150 lists the various specifications for the engine, including fluid capacities, Motorcraft brand replacement part numbers, fuel octane requirements and basic engine data.

Basic Engine Data

The eight-cylinder 5.4-liter Triton engine has a 330-cubic-inch displacement. The firing order of the spark plugs is 1-3-7-2-6-5-4-8. The spark plug gap is 0.040 to 0.050 inch. The ignition system is a "coil on plug" type. The engine has been designed to operate on gasoline with a minimum octane rating of 87. The cylinder compression ratio is 9.85 to 1.

Fluid Capacities

The engine coolant capacity of the Triton is 21.2 quarts. Including the filter, the crankcase holds 7 quarts of oil. Ford recommends using synthetic blend oil with a weight of 5W-20. The standard fuel tank holds 27.0 gallons of gasoline. While not part of the basic engine itself, the windshield washer reservoir holds 4.25 quarts of washer fluid.


Basic Replacement Parts

Ford understands that many Triton owners perform some periodic maintenance tasks on their own. As such, the owners manual lists the Motorcraft part numbers for several of these items. The air filter element is Motorcraft part number FA-1754. The fuel filter is Motorcraft part number FG-986-B. The oil filter is Motorcraft part number is FL-820-S. The battery is Motorcraft part number BTX-65-650. Ford recommends using Motorcraft brand parts when replacing or servicing any of these components.
