In the Chevy Trailblazer, the windshield washer fluid is stored in a reservoir and pumped through a flexible hose by an electric pump on demand. It sprays out through two plastic spray nozzles on the hood and one by the rear window. Several common problems may cause the washer fluid sprayers to stop working, but most of them are easy to find and fix if you use the proper steps.

Step 1

Raise the hood and trace the flexible hose running from the plastic spray nozzles near the windshield back to the pump, and from there to the washer fluid reservoir. If the hose has come loose, secure it onto its fittings.

Step 2

Start the vehicle and activate the front washer fluid sprayers by pressing the windshield washer paddle. Listen for the sound of an electric pump. If you cannot hear the pump working, check fuse #9 in the fuse box on the drivers side of the engine compartment and replace it if necessary.

Step 3

Activate the rear washer fluid sprayer by pressing the dashboard button in the center of the rear wiper control dial. Listen for the sound of the electric pump. If you cannot hear the pump working, check fuse #7 in the fuse box and replace it if necessary.

Step 4

Replace the electric pump if the fuses are intact but it still doesnt work. Remove the battery cables from the TrailBlazers battery before working on the electrical system to prevent accidental electric shock and potential injury. A mechanic can test and replace the pump for you if you are not comfortable doing so.

Step 5

Check for clogs in the hose if the electric pump runs but one or more spray nozzles do not work. If the hose is clogged, replace it with a new hose or blow compressed air through it to clear the clog.

Replace the plastic spray nozzles if the hose is free of clogs but spray cannot get through the nozzle when the hose is hooked up. The nozzles pop in and out easily if you twist and slide them around.

Tip

  • Plastic spray nozzles come in different styles if you want to customize your vehicle; some even have lights attached.
