Most cars come with a remote control key chain that allows you to lock, unlock, pop the truck and set off the car alarm from a small distance. Some cars, however, also come with a keyless entry code. There is a small number pad on the drivers side door of the car. By punching in a specified number, you can unlock your car, lock it and open the truck by using the pad. This is wonderful for drivers who have ever locked their keys in the car or who cant find their keys quickly enough at the bottom of a purse. However, if you forget the number or purchase the car from someone who forgot the number, you might think youre out of luck. Lucky for you, the number is hidden in several different areas of the car.
Step 1
Check the owners manual. Inside the first page, last page or in the wallet card of the manual will be the number.
Step 2
Open the truck. On most cars (not trucks or SUVs) the number is written on a little piece of paper a stuck to the inside of the truck (either by the latch or on the side of the trunk).
Step 3
Call the authorized dealership. If the car is relatively new, the dealer will be able to assist you in finding and/or resetting the code.
For many SUVs, the code is located on the computer inside the vehicle. Remove the jack storages panel. Inside is a metal box--on the rear is the code.
