The Kawasaki Bayou 220 was a utility-type ATV. The four wheelers bulky body, front and rear racks and large, thick tires precluded it from being a sport ATV. In 2001, the Bayou 220 had an MSRP of $3,299.
Engine Specifications
The Bayou 220 used a four-stroke, single-cylinder engine. Piston displacement was 215 cc. The valve design used a single overhead camshaft and had four total valves. The compression ratio was 9.30-to-1 and the bore by stroke measured 2.64 by 2.4 inches. The Bayou 220 was a two-wheel-drive ATV.
Engine Design
The engine cooling system utilized an air-cooled design. The ATV sported an electric starter with recoil backup, and the ignition featured DC Capacitor Discharge Ignition technology. The fuel system featured a Mikuni VM24SS carburetor, and the ATV was shaft driven. The transmission featured a five-speed forward and single-speed reverse gearbox and the clutch was an automatic centrifugal and wet multi-disc design.
Chassis
Total fuel capacity measured 2.6 gallons, and the oil capacity was 2.1 qts. The transmission gear range ran from 2.923 in first gear to 0.785 in fifth gear. The front suspension travel measured 4.5 inches and the rear suspension travel measured 4.9 inches. The Bayou 220 measured 68.7 inches in length, 40.2 inches in width and 40.9 inches in height. The front rack capacity measured 44 lbs., while the rear rack had a 66-lb. capacity. Total towing capacity measured 450 lbs.
