Saab is a Swedish company that has been manufacturing automobiles since the late 1940s. Previously, Saab was primarily an aircraft manufacturer. As of 2010, Saab is still manufacturing both automobiles and aircraft. Side marker bulbs, such as those found on a Saab, are common on most European and other foreign-made cars. The bulb flashes when the turn signals are activated, warning motorists to the side that a lane change in imminent.

Step 1

Locate the side marker light on the front fender behind the front wheel.

Step 2

Slide the marker light assembly slightly forward, then pull it from its rearward edge from the fender.

Step 3

Pull the bulb wiring connector straight out of the back of the marker light.

Step 4

Pull the bulb straight out of the socket and discard it. Push a new bulb into place until it is fully seated.

Step 5

Push the bulb wiring connector back into the rear of the marker light until it is fully seated.

Step 6

Check to make sure the gasket on the marker light is correctly positioned. Push the marker light assembly back into the hole in the side of the fender. Slide the marker light slightly to the rear until the retaining spring engages the edge of the fender and it locks into place.

Test the operation of the bulb.

Tip

  • A damaged marker light can be replaced easily and without tools in just a few minutes. Remove the marker light from the front fender by following the preceding instructions. Pull the bulb wiring connector straight out of the back of the marker light. Push the connector into the back of a new marker light. Install the light back into the front fender by following the preceding instructions.

Warning

  • According to Saab, use a replacement bulb for your side marker turning lights that is of the correct wattage. Incorrect wattage could cause the bulb wiring to overheat or a fuse to blow. The 2000 Saab 9-3 owner’s manual states that the replacement bulb should be no greater than five watts.
