The 2002 Chevrolet Silverado came in various models, such as the 1500, 2500 and 3500 series. Multiple V-8 engine options were available for the Silverado, as well as Chevy 4.3-liter V-6 engines for the light duty variations and for the two-wheel and four-wheel-drive models. Due to the various body styles, engine configurations and drive train options available, it can be difficult to determine the rear axle ratio of any particular 2002 Silverado by a simple visual inspection; however, with the right resources at your disposal, you may be able to determine your vehicles rear axle ratio using manufacturers codes.

Step 1

Open your vehicles glove box and locate the option code sticker. The option code sticker will contain a number of three-character RPO codes that will contain information relating to the type of rear axle installed on your vehicle.

Step 2

Write down the RPO codes listed on the glove box sticker. Codes relating to the rear axle options will start with the letter "G."

Navigate to the "Camaro Source" RPO code look-up Web page (see Resources for link) and scroll down to the middle of the page, to the option labeled "Full GM Vehicle RPO Decoder." Enter the RPO codes that you previously wrote down in the fields provided on the Web page. Click on the "Decode My RPO Codes!" button to display your vehicles options information and to examine the list to determine the axle ratio for your 2002 Chevrolet Silverado.
