Late model Lexus vehicles, including the LS460, use what Lexus refers to as a Smart Key system. This system lets you start the engine by pressing a button, as long as the Smart Key is inside the vehicle. With this system, you use the buttons on the key to unlock the doors and enter the vehicle. However, a time may come when the Smart Key battery dies. When this happen, youll need to use the backup option to unlock and enter your Lexus LS460.
Step 1
Examine the bottom half of your Lexus Smart Key carefully. Youll see the edge of the metal key protruding.
Step 2
Grasp the edge with your fingers and pull the backup key out of the Smart Key fob. You can use this metal key to open the door.
Approach the drivers side door. Look on the handle for the key cylinder. Insert the key and turn it to the left to unlock the door.
Tip
- Some trim packages may have a small chrome cover over the keyhole. If this is the case, use the edge of the metal key to pry the cover off.
