As an optional accessory, Nissan offered the 1999 Altima automobile with a factory-installed anti-theft system. When activated, the system prompts the horn to beep and the lights to flash, to serve as a theft deterrent. The system also deactivates the cars starter. If activated, the alarm will reset itself after three minutes. The primary method to activate and deactivate the system is the multi-remote control, which also locks and unlocks the doors and trunk. However, if you lose the remote, but still have a key, you can still activate and deactivate the system.
Step 1
Carefully insert the key into the door, being careful not to move the car.
Step 2
Turn the key to unlock the door. Look through the window to check that the security indicator light on the left side of the steering wheel goes out. If the alarm activates when you insert the key, continue to unlock the door. The alarm should go off as soon as you turn the key to unlock the door.
Open the door and insert the key into the ignition. The vehicle should start.
Tip
- If the alarm is active, you must insert the key into the door lock to deactivate the alarm, even if the doors arent locked. The alarm will also activate when you lock the door using the key.
