The headlights on your Toyota Matrix normally dont need any adjusting. If you replace your headlight assembly, however, and the new headlight assembly isnt properly calibrated, the assembly may need to be adjusted. Improper headlight adjustment on your Matrix could cause an automobile accident from blinding oncoming drivers if the headlights are aimed too high or from not being able to see the road if headlights are aimed too low.
Step 1
Park your Matrix on a level surface facing a closed garage door or wall. Make sure the Matrix is 25 feet away from the surface.
Step 2
Turn on the headlights and shine them onto the door.
Step 3
Open the hood and adjust the headlights using the screw on the backside of the headlight housing assembly. On the right side of the engine bay, there is a black bracket on the top of the headlight housing. Just below this bracket, on the back of the actual housing is the small flat head screw you need to turn to adjust the headlights. On the left side, you need to slide your screwdriver between the housing assembly and the battery to reach the screw.
Turn the adjustment screw clockwise to raise the headlights and counterclockwise to lower the headlights. There is no lateral adjustment to the Matrix headlight assembly. Adjust the headlights to the point where the headlight beam is positioned at the bottom of the garage door or wall where it meets the ground.
