Car stereos are one of the most upgraded features of any vehicle. It can be done in the comfort of your own garage with a little experience, patience and the right knowledge. It is important to be extremely accurate with the disconnecting and reconnecting of the car stereo wiring harness.
Step 1
Remove the dash plate or console to reveal how the stereo is connected to the vehicle. You will need to remove the 2 holding screws on the bottom of the stereo. Place these in a safe place after checking them for stripping or corrosion. If they are damaged, replace them.
Step 2
Pull the stereo out of the dash far enough to reveal the wiring connected to the back of the stereo. You will see there is a wiring harness. This is the same as when you remove the speakers. If you flip the speaker over, you will see there is a wiring harness clipped to the back.
Step 3
Unplug the wiring harness from the back of the car stereo to remove it from this component. Set the stereo somewhere clean and safe so it isnt disturbed or broken while it waits to be reinstalled. Go back to the speaker and unclip the wires that are clipped on to the back of the speaker. If it doesnt come off easily, wiggle it a little. Do not pull too hard or it will break.
Remove the metal cage from the back of the speaker, it may be a little difficult as the back of any speaker is a large magnet. This should completely remove the wiring harness.
