Any vehicle manufactured after 1978 includes a 17-digit vehicle identification number, more commonly referred to as a VIN, which allows you to decode and identify the specifics of a vehicle. Each digit in the VIN gives certain information about a vehicle such as year, model, make and paint code (among other things). Buick Grand Nationals made after 1978 are no different, and one can decode their VINs in minutes by looking it up online or by calling a local Buick dealership.
Decode your Buick Grand National VIN
Step 1
Find the 17-digit VIN on your Buick Grand National and write it down. Most vehicles of this decade have the VIN at the base of the windshield on the dashboard, but not always. Check the "VIN Finder" link in the resources section in order to assist you in helping locate the VIN.
Step 2
After youve found and made note of your VIN, navigate to the VIN decoder website by clicking on the "VIN Decoder" link in the references section of this page.
Step 3
Enter the 17-digit VIN in the box on the VIN Decoder website and execute the search. The search will yield all of the pertinent information of your vehicle up to the make-specific serial number. If youd like more information on your VIN, write down the serial number and move to step four.
Call your local Buick dealership and tell them youd like to decode your serial number.
