The manifold absolute pressure sensor, or MAP sensor, is used to measure the amount of air flowing through the intake system and into the engine. The sensor s airflow rate data to the Honda engine control unit, or ECU, which can then adjust the air-to-fuel ratio for optimum fuel combustion. Over time, the Honda MAP sensor can become dirty with contaminates or dust in the air. When this happens youll need to clean the sensor.

Step 1

Open the hood and locate the MAP sensor. Honda MAP sensors are located near the intake manifold. The exact location varies depending on the year and model of Honda. The sensor itself is a small black box.

Step 2

Remove the electrical plug running to the MAP sensor. Squeeze the release tab on the top of the plug and pull the connector off.

Step 3

Remove the screws holding the MAP sensor in place and remove the sensor.

Step 4

Turn the sensor upside down on a flat surface so that the sensor end of the MAP sensor is exposed.

Step 5

Spray the sensor liberally with electronic parts cleaner. Remove any visible signs of dust or other contaminates. The electronic parts cleaner will evaporate, so there is no need to wipe it down.

Re-install the MAP sensor. Installation is the reverse of removal.

Tip

  • For specific information about removing your Honda MAP sensor, consult the particular vehicles manual (see Resources).
