The Buick LeSabre is equipped with an exhaust gas recirculation valve. The valve, commonly referred to as the EGR valve, is a crucial component within the vehicle. The valve directs the exhaust into the engine intake manifold, where the exhaust is cooled. This process is extremely important, as it prevents your engine and other components from overheating and becoming damaged. Handling dirty exhaust, the valve can become dirty and clogged. It’s important to clean the EGR valve regularly to keep your LeSabre’s engine running smoothly.
Step 1
Place the LeSabre in “Park” and remove the ignition key. Leave the vehicle to sit and cool off for a half-hour.
Step 2
Open the hood of the LeSabre and locate the EGR valve. The small, circular EGR valve is found on the LeSabres engine intake manifold.
Step 3
Loosen and remove the bolts surrounding the valve, using a socket wrench. Once the bolts are loosened and removed, remove the valve by pulling it off the manifold. Some force may be required.
Step 4
Spray carburetor cleaner generously on the valve and inside the valve. Clean away the built-up carbon, dirt and debris with a wire brush and rag. Spray cleaner on the valve mount and clean the valve mount of any dirt and debris. For stubborn carbon buildup, allow the carburetor cleaner to sit for a few seconds before wiping it away.
Reinstall the newly cleaned EGR valve onto the valve mount. Replace each bolt and tighten with the socket wrench. This will ensure the valve is secured in place. Close the hood of the LeSabre. Repeat this process any time cleaning of the EGR valve is needed.
