Contenu

Produced from 1990 to 2001, the Chevrolet Lumina is a sedan from the Chevrolet division of General Motors. The second and last generation of production—1995 to 2001—is known for some transmission problems, particularly the vehicles with the 3.1-liter V-6 engine.

Specific Problems

Chevrolet Luminas such as the 1997 version are beset with several faulty engine components. These include the evaporative emissions canister vent solenoid, fuel injectors, intake manifold gasket, and camshaft and crankshaft position sensors.

Widespread Problem

An occasional problem on the later-model Chevrolet Lumina is the failure of the Exhaust Gas Recirculation (EGR) system. This is due to clogged passages in the intake manifold and it affects all engines of the Lumina, not just the 3.1-liter one.

Cost

As of September 2010, it can cost upwards of $1,000 to fix the transmission problems of the 3.1-liter engine-equipped Chevrolet Lumina. It would cost about $65 to get the EGR passages cleaned for Luminas with the EGR system problem—not just ones with the 3.1-liter V-6 engine.
