You can check the status of your Virginia drivers license by requesting a copy of your driver record online, in person or by phone. There is a fee for the driver record, but you can try the free "Record At-a-Glance" service. It sometimes lists the status of the drivers license.
Online
Step 1
Open a web browser window on your computer. Go to the Virginia Department of Motor Vehicles web site (see Resources). Navigate to the online services page.
Step 2
Locate the "Driver License Services" section of the screen. Click on "Record At-a-Glance" to view some of your DMV record in Virginia. This is free to do. Just enter in your customer number from your Virginia drivers license, your date of birth and your DMV-assigned PIN. You can request a new PIN online (see Resources) if you do not have yours. It will be sent by mail.
Step 3
Click on "Record Request" to see your full Virginia DMV record. There is an $8 fee for the record, and you can pay by credit card, debit card or electronic check. You will also need your PIN for this request. Once you enter your PIN and your information, you can elect to only view the record online or also get a copy by mail. It can take two weeks to receive the copy by mail.
Step 4
Request your record in person by visiting a DMV customer service center in Virginia. You can walk into any DMV customer service center to request a drivers record to find out the status of your license. You can pay by cash, check or credit or debit card at the service centers.
Order your driver record report over the phone by calling (888) 337-4782 to speak to a DMV customer service representative to order your driver record. You can pay by credit card, debit card or electronic check and it will come to you by mail. Expect it to take up to two weeks to arrive.
