Contenu

The instrument panel lights on your Jeep Cherokee are small, low-wattage bulbs that illuminate the instrument panel from behind. Occasionally these lights burn out and must be replaced. You will typically purchase replacement lights from a Chrysler dealership, although some auto parts stores may carry the correct size bulbs you need. You must know the model year of your Cherokee to get the correct bulb.

Step 1

Open the hood of the Jeep Cherokee, and disconnect the negative battery cable. Loosen the nut on the cable clamp, using a socket wrench, and slide the clamp off the negative terminal.

Step 2

Use the screwdriver to twist out the two screws on the underside of the Cherokees cowl on the instrument panel.

Step 3

Pull the cowl forward by hand, and remove the cowl trim.

Step 4

Remove the four screws holding the instrument panel in place.

Step 5

Slide the instrument panel forward.

Step 6

Remove the power connectors from the back of the instrument panel, and rotate the panel around.

Step 7

Remove the small lights that need to be changed by rotating them counterclockwise by hand and pulling them out the back of the instrument panel.

Insert the new bulbs and reassemble the dash. Installation is the reverse of removal.
