The 2002 Ford ranger wiper motor is located under the cowl of the Ranger and is secured to the firewall. The wiper motor drives the windshield wipers and one end of the motor looks like a small cylindrical canister. When your Rangers wiper motor starts hesitating or only works intermittently, its time to replace the motor. Replacement motors are available from most auto parts stores or directly from a Ford dealership.
Step 1
Pull the drivers side wiper arm away from the windshield until it is locked in a vertical position.
Step 2
Loosen the cable clamp on the negative battery terminal by turning the retaining nut counterclockwise using a socket wrench.
Step 3
Unplug the wiper motor electrical connector.
Step 4
Loosen and remove the retaining nut at the base of the drivers side wiper arm using a socket wrench.
Step 5
Unbolt the right pivot nut with a socket wrench, and let the wiper linkage drop into the cowl at the base of the windshield.
Step 6
Pull the wiper linkage access cover off with your hands on the right side of the dash panel near the wiper motor.
Step 7
Reach through the access cover opening and push the clip away from the wiper motor linkage until it clears the crack pin on the end of the motor. Then, slide the wiper motor clip off of the linkage assembly.
Step 8
Pull the wiper linkage off from motor crank pin.
Step 9
Unscrew the three screw bolts from the wiper motor using a socket wrench and remove the motor.
Install the new motor. Install in the reverse of removal.
