Replacing the body control module (BCM) on your Impala may be necessary if you have exhausted all the diagnostic flow charts available to you to fix the electrical issue that you are having with your car. If after making several attempts to fix the problem, it is still malfunctioning, the issue could very well lie in the body control module.
Step 1
Disconnect the negative terminal of the battery with a wrench. This will prevent damage to the new body control module. The negative terminal will be indicated by a negative sign with a black cable running to it.
Step 2
Crouch down in front of the drivers side door (door open) and look above the kick panel; you should see the body control module there.
Step 3
Remove the connectors plugged into the body control module. To remove the connectors, push down on the connector tab and pull outward.
Step 4
Remove the bolts holding the body control module in place with a ratchet.
Step 5
Install the new body control module and tighten the bolts with a ratchet to secure the module in place.
Step 6
Push the connectors into the new body control module.
Reconnect the negative terminal of the battery with a wrench.
Tip
- If you cannot fit a ratchet above the drivers side kick panel, use a wrench instead.
Warnings
- Failure to disconnect the negative terminal will damage the costly body control module.
- Wear safety glasses to protect your eyes from injury.
