The Dodge Grand Caravan features a rear wiper arm with a small J-hook attachment. The windshield wipers can be replaced using a quick-connect release and reattach method. Most quality aftermarket wiper blades feature this quick-connect, direct-fit option. Replacing the rear wiper on the Grand Caravan has one distinct difference than replacing the front.
Step 1
Acquire the correct size rear wiper for the respective year of the Dodge Grand Caravan. The rear blades are significantly smaller than the front blades. Any place that sells wiper blades will have a wiper blade selector guide for all vehicles. Use an online selector guide if desired before going to purchase the blade.
Step 2
Lift up on the rear wiper arm (away from its cradle) of the Grand Caravan as far as it will allow. Unlike the front wiper arms, the rear Grand Caravan arms will not stand at a resting position away from the rear windshield. Hold the arm with one hand away from the windshield, being aware there is a slight spring tension on the arm. Avoid letting the arm swing on the tension spring back into place and incurring damage to the rear windshield.
Step 3
Push in the release clip located on the wiper blade hardware where the blade connects to the small J-hook of the wiper arm.
Step 4
Pivot the blade slightly away from the arm with one hand while holding the release clip and still supporting the arm with the other hand. Depending on how long it has been since the blade was replaced, some force may be required, but be careful not to bend or reposition the wiper arm from its original position.
Step 5
Allow the wiper arm to gently rest (in its cradle) against the rear windshield after the blade has been removed.
Step 6
Remove the replacement wiper blade from its packaging and use the small alcohol wipe (supplied in the packaging) to clean the rubber blade section of the wiper blade.
Step 7
Lift the wiper arm from its cradle again and support it with one hand again. Pivot the top center of the replacement blade (most all wiper blades are automatically set up for small J-hook applications, so clipping on any hardware provided in the packaging is not required) underneath the J-hook.
Step 8
Lift the blade upward against the length of the wiper arm until a small audible click is heard. Pull back down on the blade (without pressing the release tab) to ensure it is locked into position. Rest the wiper arm and blade assembly back into its cradle.
Test the blade for performance. Activate the rear windshield washer when testing if it is not raining or snowing.
