Most cars today come standard with keyless entry. This allows the car owner not only to lock and unlock the doors from a distance, but also to sound a panic alarm and sometimes even start the engine. After extended use, the battery starts to wear out on your car remote. Instructions for changing your car remote battery are similar regardless of the make or model you own.

Step 1

Look for screws on the back of your remote. If there are no screws, look for a notch on the side where the two halves of the remote meet.

Step 2

Loosen and remove the screws. Or use a coin to pry open the remote.

Step 3

Remove the old battery. Do not touch the battery terminal or any of the internal circuitry.

Step 4

Insert the new battery. The battery has a positive sign on one side. This side usually faces down. Check with your manufacturers instructions to ensure that you put the battery in correctly.

Snap the two halves back together. If you had to remove any screws, replace them.
