Caterpillar is a major corporation that produces heavy machinery and equipment for industrial, agricultural and commercial use. The C12 diesel engine was designed by Caterpillar for on-highway use in vehicles such as buses, large trucks and vans. The Caterpillar C12 diesel engine can produce 1,650 foot-pounds of torque when operating at 1,200 revolutions per minute. At 1,700 rpm the C12 will produce 1,400 foot-pounds of torque. At the maximum number of revolutions per minute, which is 2,100, the C12 will produce just under 1,100 foot-pounds of torque. The C12 engine operates at anywhere between 1,200 and 2,100 revolutions per minute. The C12 is turbocharged and the maximum amount of horsepower that can be achieved is 430.


Standard Equipment

The C12 features crankcase breathers and an electronic control module. The fuel injection system of this engine is electronically controlled to ensure the proper amount of fuel and air make it into the engines cylinders. The C12 also features a hydrualic steering pump and a gear-driven jacket water pump.

Dimensions

The Caterpillar C12 engine is 50.6 inches long, 35.68 inches wide and 41.85 inches tall. The dry weight of this engine is 2,070 pounds including all of the standard equipment.
