Contenu

The 2003 Ford F-Series pickup truck equipped with the 6.8L V10 engine received poor fuel mileage. Ford does not publish V10 fuel efficiency data, but the Environmental Protect Agency pegs the V10 as earning no more than 14 mpg.

The V10

Fords V10 displaces 6.8L and generates 310 horsepower and 425 lb.-feet of torque. The torque allows the truck or van to tow up to 12,500 lbs. with a maximum payload in the cargo box at 4,445 lbs. The V10 powers the Ford F-250 and F-350 trucks and the E-250 and E-350 cargo/passenger vans. The vans share the same chassis and mechanical components as the trucks. The 2003 through 2011 V10s are virtually identical.

Caveats

The fuel mileage of a 2003 Ford F-Series V10 depends on the rear axle ratio, weight of the vehicle, transmission and towing and payload capacities. The F-Series pickup V10 averages between 10 and 13 mpg.

Mileage

The EPA reported that the 2011 Ford E-350 V10, the same engine that powered the 2003 Ford F-250 and F-350 pickups, earned 10 mpg in city driving and 14 on the highway.
