Contenu

Up until around 2010, the Ford Taurus was an economically priced, mid-size sedan. Although its handling received only modest reviews, its low price and high crash-safety ratings (see reference 1) helped make it a popular vehicle among driving schools. After 2009, Ford radically changed the Taurus, aiming to produce an economically friendly luxury vehicle.

Oil Change Schedule

According to the owners manual, the 2005 Ford Taurus should receive an oil change every 5,000 miles or six month period, whichever is reached first. Regular oil changes help extend the life of a car.

Type of Oil

According to the owners manual, Ford recommends using Motorcraft brand oil. It does not specify a specific oil weight. Commonly, people put 5W-20 oil into their engines when the car is relatively new. After the car passes the high-mileage point, which is usually in the range of 75-100,000 miles, oil change technicians will begin recommending the 5W-30, frequently branded for high-mileage engines.

Oil Change Intervals

While many oil change facilities tell customers to change oil every 3,000 miles, there are questions about the necessity of changing engine oil so frequently. Some studies suggest motor oil barely degrades after 6,000 miles. The Taurus manual suggests the 6,000 mile interval. (see reference 4)
