In 1967, the already popular Mustang 289, or GT, sports car had its first redesign. It became longer and wider, with rear tail scoops that are now a classic Mustang body style. This engine had a compression ratio of 10:1, making the Mustang able to get up to 60 miles per hour quickly. According to the Mustang Specs website, only 472 Mustangs were equipped with the 289 V-8. That was because "the GT Equipment Group option was mandatory with the 271hp 289."
Dimension Specifications
The size and weight of the 1967 Mustang 289 also affected how it accelerated from zero to 60 miles per hour, beyond the new aerodynamic body styling. It had a larger wheelbase than previous models of 108 inches, a height of 51.8 inches, a width of 70.9 inches, a length of 183.6 inches and a light weight of 2,980 lbs. total, with only a driver.
