Introduced in the mid-1990s, the two-seat Road King custom cruiser is part of Harley Davidsons FL line of touring motorcycles. The original Harley Electra-Glide inspired the Road Kings design, with the addition of a detachable pillion seat and no fairing. Changes for the 2000 model include laced wheels, white-wall tires, leather saddlebags with hard inserts and new narrower handlebars.

Engine

An air-cooled, 1499.00 cc, four-stroke V-twin engine generates 67.00 hp at 5,200 rpm. Paired with a five-speed manual transmission, the Road King produces 81.1 ft-lb of torque at 3,100 rpm, giving the motorcycle a power-to-weight ratio of 0.17 hp per kilogram.

Chassis

Built around a steel, double cradle frame, the Road Kings seat height is 26.93 inches, over a wheelbase of 63.46 inches. The bikes suspension is comprised of twin, Swingarm shocks. Dual front disc brakes and a single rear provide stopping power for the 760.6-lb. motorcycle. The Road Kings gas tank accommodates 4.99 gallons of fuel. Available color options in 2000 were black, red, blue, lilac, orange, blue with gray, orange with gray, red with black and green with black.


Performance

Harley claims a top speed of 102.5 mph for the 2000 Road King. The big tourer is capable of accelerating from zero to 60 mph in eight seconds and from zero to 100 kph in 8.4 seconds. An anti-lock braking system (ABS) was not available for this model year.
